*pounce!*

Zacam
more fun than a razorwire enema

Haha! I surprise you with my unexpected presence! I would apologize for the lack of updates, but really, who all reads this thing anyway? I'm quite sure that I didn't hold anybody in dreadful suspense, my writting wouldn't have staved of some world wide catastrophe or anything. Though, that would be kind of groovy if it did, though to be honest, anything that I write would stand a better chance of igniting a world wide catastrophe rather than preventing one. Or something.

So, what have I been up to, one might ask? And indeed, one just might if they were intolerably bored and so inclined. But I'm guessing that would not be you, you who just closed your browser window or even you, who doesn't even know what an 'internet' is. Hey, if I can write to invisible people (to me atleast) I might as well be inclusive 'n all, ya know? Wouldn't want to have some lawsuit pouncing on me or something like.

Well, the short of it (which is impressive as I'm sort of on the middlin side of tall) is terminal geeking. No, I don't mean I've been geeking at a terminal.....well, actualy, I do, but that wasn't what I initially ment. Pha. Fuck it. You mean what I know.

So, let's see......post christmas. Well, got some nifty shiznit. Had alot of fun (except for the first attempt at getting back to olympia. That part wasn't so fun. Even if it came with naked twister and a tub of cool whip it wouldn't have been fun.) Highlights are: Got 'Hordes of the Underdark' expansion for Neverwinter Nights. Got the Myst 3 DVD collection. A shiny new Radeon with twice the ability and 4 times the memory of my old card. Came home with a DVD drive, a stick of 256 PC133 so I now have 512mb of ram. A 1.2 Athlon. A linux box and slackware 9.1 (those will have to go back down to portland once I get the damn fsck'n thing RUNNING. At this point I don't care if it will do a mile in 4 minutes or less just so long as it'll pass Ms. Daisy). John's room became my room, where a nifty as hell wolf blanket is now residing. It's mine. :-)

The downs: Still don't have 'Shadows of the Undrentide' expansion for Neverwinter. Neither mandrake or slackware like my USB mouse for some reason when it's plugged in as a usb mouse, but like all my other usb devices. Lot's of hardware moving went on in the process to narrow it down to this. Both windows and linux are now happy, though I could shive a git what windows thinks about the arrangement. My motherboard, on top of having funky ass PCI IRQ routing and handling (and the fact that I've never ran both a modem AND a network card in here at the same time) led to some serious frustrations, also doesn't seem to support running the MP class of Athlon processors. Granted, the chip _may_ be dead, as I noticed a little corner of the core die was missing when I cleaned off the old thermal paste.......but my guess is that if the chip is still good then it's a type unsuported and it'll stay that way since I cannot seem to get ahold of the latest BIOS update. (the memory and DVD seem to be co-operating so far, except when I try to use the DVD as a source drive for on-the-fly disc to disc copying to my CD-R/W. Oi.) Neither mandrake or slackware (or maybe just XFree itself) don't have any built in 3D support for the new radeon. The supposed drivers on ATI's website don't work, or when they do I have unaccelerated 2D support and no 3D support (which would qualify, IMO, as not working). On the plus side is now has new thermal paste as well as a beefy (yet quiet) 3rd party fan on the passive heatsink, so I don't even need to overclock it in windows to experience enhanced performance. (not that it was performing badly to begin with, but still.)

Hrm. Anything else.....nah, not really. A whole month of me doing nothing but moving hardware around and various reinstalls and testing of OS and software limitations. Yeah, I do tend to preffer that to socializing, especially with people I don't know. Which isn't to say that I don't socialize well. I wouldn't even precisely say that I'm anti-social (in a literal root construction of the word) just that I'm not sociably inclined. And before anybody say's that I need to get out of the house, I'll have you know I did that last night, had a plesant several hours chatting away at denny's over a long island and a white russian with some cheese fries, so bite me. I tend to like those type of evenings few and far between, otherwise it becomes a chore and a pain in the ass. Of course, since I don't HAVE an ass, this shouldn't technically pose a problem...

Heh. Almost made than an o tag instead of a p tag. I think the browser woulda looked at me like I was stupid if I did that. But then I'd have to poke it's eyes out with a caviar spoon. Nickel plated, not silver. Prefferably tarnished.

Yeah. So I think I'm going to go hide back into geekdom. I figure if I keep it up long enough, I will get X up and running the way it's supposed to be. I'm thinking I'll just take the 36 hours it'll need and install Gentoo from Stage3. I'd do a stage1, but I haven't managed to convince it to operate my winmodem for the necessary net connection and besides, with a bandwidth limitation of 5Kb/s that'd take _way_ to freakin long. But damn it'd be cool. :-)

Or I could just play Homeworld 2 in vs CPU mode and make it my bitch and laugh as it breaks down and cries. Yeah, I think I'll do that instead. I have the urge to blow lot's of stuff up all of a sudden.

As an aside, LiteStep kicks ass. Except that I can't run Winamp 5 desktop mode Milkdrop visualizations in it. Well, I can, but it doesn't actually DISPLAY anything. Someone, fix this please. Before I go nutzoid and start a worldwide campaign of neutering the worlds population with raw eggshells. Thanks.
